- 1984: my first computer was an Apple IIC given to me by my parents in 8th grade (i was a very fortunate kid) ($1300). i was so excited when i got a 300baud modem having visions of hacking into banks and government installations after having watched War Games with Mathew Broderick
- 1984: telling my grandfather he should buy Apple stock. he listened and was very thankful a few years later (not sure why i chose to buy TWA instead)
- 1988: my first Mac SE with a 20MB hard drive ($2200). my father didn’t understand why i needed a hard drive so i had to pony up for the $300 additional cost (that’s right $300 for an 20MB hard drive. i believe a 500GB hard drive today is about $50)
- 1992: selling my apple stock after it dropped from 60 to 40 (I think Jobs had already been fired by that point anyway)
- 1998: buying a PowerPc Mac clone. i did it because i was still angry at Apple for failing to license their OS back in the 80s and allowing Microsoft to crush them in the PC wars.
- 2000: buying my first PC and moving away from Mac. I just could no longer deal with the lack of compatibility on some stuff
- 2004: buying the Ipod mini the day it was released and hoping it would be shipped before i left for my one month trip to China. looking at the stock price at $14 after i received my Ipod mini and thinking i needed to get long ASAP.
- 2004: back from China and trading AAPL almost every day having fun with the HFTs
- 2007: trading AAPL from 120 to 200 culminating with the release of the Iphone
- 2008: long AAPL the day that rumors of Jobs illness came out and taking a quick 6 point hit
- 2009: trading AAPL the day after earnings were released in May and seeing it break above 126 and thinking next stop was going to be 160.
- 2009: trading Christmas eve with 5 other guys on the floor and getting long above 197 for the break above 200. betting ALJ that it would close above 208 and winning 🙂
- 2010: doing a live from the floor show on Stocktwits with Howard Lindzon and discussing in awe the blowout of their earnings that i thought could take the stock from 240 to 280.
- 2010: blogging about the bigger pic technical setup for a break above 360 and the move to 400
- Today: getting short on the pop to 366 on the Open and covering on the move down to 361 (glad i covered 🙂
- Tonight: watching my twitter stream get lit up as news of Steve Jobs passing spread through the virtual world
