Cortez, a non-traditional college student, was not a fan of the misinformation being spread about trading on his campus. He was as disappointed with the sparse selection of trading lectures at his school. You might say he was downright pissed. So he made it happen. He reached out to a prop firm (SMB), convinced one of their partner’s to visit (ok me) and address some future traders, organized multiple student organizations to spread the word of a visiting trader (not easy), and hit up some internal departments (harder).
I would imagine many students at non ivy’s have had similar thoughts (complaints?) as Cortez. I have always found the trading community to be very generous. So you have a choice: you can do nothing or you can be like Cortez. Below is a picture of me talking to some future traders from Rutgers-Newark. Make it happen!
On November 1 a community of young traders will launch a promising new trading blog Young Guns Trading. Make it happen!
The other day I video Skyped with a student at UCI (University of California-Irvine) who has helped grow their trading community to 70 plus. Make it happen!
Three students have sent me info on their impressive student trading organizations and asked us to visit, which we will. Make it happen!
One SMB Reader still in college sends me emails every month on his progress. The young man is absolutely getting better every month as a profitable, self-sustaining trader, not yet 22. Make it happen!
As I learn of more awesome work being done on college campuses and by young traders, I will update this blog. All of this reminds me of the killer video from Andy Andrews on Hernando Cortez, Burn the Boats. Make it happen!

For Cortez to organize a trading event on his college’s campus is quite amazing. That’s awesome. He must be related to the Hernando Cortez who said to burn the boats…

Thank you for helping us maintain hope. Wish one day you could come to PITT.
Congrats to you Bella, It’s so important for our young people to be exposed to how real traders trade. I wish I would of had the same. My hope is to be a great trader so I can do the same. Trade on!
thanks for your help and for spreading the word Bella.
let me know if you are ever on the west coast 🙂
