Steve and I were asked to speak at a prop firm outside NYC this weekend. An old friend asked so of course we were available. It was an interesting visit. We learned a lot.
I have traded for over eleven years. The one thing that I am certain of is that I still have so much to learn. Steve and I had some very interesting conversations with the firm we visited that we will give some thought. And I hope we will offer better training to our present and future traders as a result. You must keep learning as a trader.
Steve offered SMB Easy Trades to this prop firm. I offered some thoughts on developing good habits as a trader. Steve was superb. When he speaks you are left with one thought- this guy is a trader. At SMB we spend so much of our time grinding it out. But we must constantly search for trades that we can hold longer. Trades where literally you just buy and hold. Set ups that are not as reliant on superior trading skills.
As I write we kinda got caught in some bad weather. I was hoping to squeaze in a few rounds of golf and get some sun. I last blogged that my vitamin D count was so low my doctor wondered if I ever got out in the sun. Obviously I don’t get out much as a trader. As this is no good.
“Back in the day” Steve and I used to jet for long weekends to wherever we wanted and play some rounds of golf. We have played on some of the best courses in the country. Those were the good old days. Young, a full head of hair, more money than we deserved, and free time. OK now I am just getting depressed.
I ended my discussion to the traders at this prop firm with these thoughts about day trading:
Where can you find a job where you get to dress in jeans and a tshirt?
What job offers a recent college graduate the upside potential of 250k plus in Y3?
Trading is stimulating.
Everyday is new.
You get to sit around a bunch of interesting people, who love trading, and do what you want.
There are no office politics. You are paid based upon your performance.
This is your chance to do something great.
Take advantage of this opportunity. You may never get a better one.
Trading is the best job in the world!
For our SMB readers, what is your favorite thing about trading?
Enjoy your weekend. Don’t forget to follow us on twitter.

also really enjoyed the seminar! yes when Steve talks, you can tell he is on a different level as far as tape reading. I think we have a long way to go, we depend a lot on the technology. The trading setups will definitely give us something to look for and build on!

My favourite thing about trading is that it is easy to start but impossible to master. Just like any good board game. But the difference being that we’re able to rake in real money (at least some of the time for me).
