I have written in One Good Trade and The StockTwits Edge that I was trained by one of the 50 greatest intraday traders of all-time and then quipped “if such a list exits”. Well one doesn’t. But maybe we can make one this summer as at SMB we are teamed with a staff of interns and traders. Heck the NBA has such a list, why not one for traders.
A few SMB readers deserve credit for this idea:
In our comments sections perhaps you will share some traders who would be on your list and why.

not a good start Jerry 🙂
You remember Broadway Trading? One of their traders even made the cover of forbes. Serge Milman.
But he’s not the guy I’m writing about. There were some very big hitters at Broadway Trading, but one guy was about five times bigger than everyone else. Jim Shaw. I mean FREAKIN HUGE! Nobody was even in the same league.
I traded in a branch at Broadway and was friends with the branch manager, and he let me see the daily printouts of where everyone stood.
very awesome anecdote. thxs for sharing!
pete and serge millman, steve, bella, rOy, @weeklyta, gman, brian shannon, brad sullivan, fari hamzei, @investorslive, @scopelabs:disqus
just what i have so far 🙂
scott redler and marc sperling as well

Oh wait nevermind 😉
What an honor to be remembered for being the best.
WD Gann, arguably the best ever…
Of all time? I’d nominate Jesse Livermore
ok. WD GANN
Livermore
Steven Cohen
Jim Simmons
Bella. and many more:)
I have to disagree on Livermore. A guy who made millions and went broke several times definitely has a problem of money management or risk management or whatever you call it. There was a good article about this 10 days ago by Quint Tatro : http://quinttatro.com/2011/06/13/what-would-livermore-do/
I understand Livermore is a legend and all, but I would not put him in the top 50.
I like really like the idea of a list, but in my mind it will be very difficult to create. The NBA is a televised sport where people have instant access to information about every player on the court. Unfortunately, trading isn’t the same way. If you don’t run a hedge fund, write a book, or have an online presence, then it’s real difficult to get your name out there. If we assume all great traders would have done one of the three above, then…disregard this message 😉
Good luck!

ive sat in trading rooms w/ monsters in the daily 1mill+ category daytrader pnl swings that would never want to be on a list.
druckenmiller, soros, p. tudor jones,
Bella,
how are we defining best? Seems like there are a lot of ways to get this list.
Thxs again for the great book!
can’t you just allow us to have some fun? 🙂
