With the market currently in a tight range for today, we look at stocks with unusually expanded ranges. These are the top 5 stock on today’s Opening Range column on the SMB Radar. The opening range filter records a static snapshot of the Unusual Movers at 9:45. These are stocks which had an unusual move in early in the session compared to historical opening ranges. An IPR reading above 3 means the stock is highly In Play (bright red). We find the best opportunities intraday come in these types of names.

The list for today’s top 10 Opening Range stocks: $BIIB, $AMGN, $CVH, $EW, $HUM, $ALXN, $LH, $DHR, $UNH, $UHS

  1. This must be an extremely helpful and time saving tool to use to quickly select the best symbols to focus on! Two questions: what does the white box around the symbol ALXN mean and what does the middle column indicate?

  2. hi Jean,

The white box is just a artifact of the display… it simply means that the person who took the screenshot clicked on that symbol last, so it is no big deal!

The middle column, though, shows the ratio of the opening range to the average opening range for previous days. 100 = 100%, meaning that the opening range is the same as the average.

Hope this helps, and yes this is a really useful tool for intraday traders. I’m making a video series that shares some more details about the Radar and gives some ideas for using it. Stay tuned for more.
